Begonias

I kept going with art classes even with all the challenges. This colored pencil image is from the first of my Botanical Illustration classes upon which I've embarked. I learned things about color I'd never heard before in my many moons of training. We will focus on pen and ink next session and graduate to water color. A number of advanced students/ master artists kept working as we had our class. They and their work were inspirations.

Asian Bouquet

While I must admit I do not love taking classes at this stage of my life, my Fall Pastel class offered the structure for me to create. This image was my final project, based on a lovely bouquet purchased near the 4th Street shopping area in Berkeley. It is a departure from my usual approach--no ink involved.

Torre in Trastevere

My 8th trip to Italy was perhaps the best ever. This lovely view greeted me from my corner room in the Trastevere. Please visit my album to see many other beautiful vistas we encountered.

They are certainly correct that practice makes perfect. I've learned that I need a balcony, garden or both in the places I stay. In addition to the joys of internet planning, I have also accumulated numerous wonderful guide books over these 13 years. If you are visiting Rome, I highly recommend Carol Coviello-Malzone's Flavor's of Rome. She provided not only excellent suggestions for dining, she gives very helpful background on customs. I loved learning what I should do with my bread (forget the bread plate which is not provided) and that I should not expect to find olive oil or butter served with my bread.

Begonias on Bourbon

During our 3rd visit to New Orleans after Katrina, we returned to the Bourgoyne Guest House. We saw this lovely composition as we walked up the stairs to our room.
